As an employee of an agency that provides waiver services, you are required to meet certain training requirements. Select from the options provided to access some of the required training. To receive credit, you must show proof of training with a certificate, questions/answers, etc.

You may need Adobe Acrobat Reader for some of the training. If you do not have that software, you can download it for free from http://www.adobe.com/reader.

PRE-SERVICE TRAINING

CPR

You will need to register for a Adult CPR course with your local fire department or Red Cross. Other qualified trainers may also be available, but you must be sure to get training that will certify you in Adult CPR. Submit your card or a copy for credit.

You must also renew your CPR certification based on the certificate expiration date.

HIV/AIDS

You can take HIV/AIDS through the APD Area Training Information or through another valid approved trainer. You only need to take this one time IF your current certificate does NOT have an expiration date. Otherwise, you must re-certify in accordance with the expiration date on your certificate.

Core Competency

The Core Competency includes 2 courses: "Introduction to Developmental Disabilities" and "Health & Safety". You may take these courses in one of two ways:
- register for a class with APD (free, but difficult to get into). Follow the link for the APD Area Training Information.
- register for an ONLINE class through the APD website (costs money, but easy to register)

Follow the link for the APD Provider Training , read the information under "Core Competency", then scroll down to "Training Options" and select Web-Based Training (Learn more...). Follow the instructions carefully and select “APD’s Training Site at TCC” under APD at Tallahassee Community College. Follow the directions on the TCC website to register for training. Registration must be completed at least one business day prior to actually beginning the training. You must be sure to get your certificate and transcripts, which may take a week. There is a charge for each course.

It covers the history of supported living, eligibility, supporting choice, implementation plans, task analysis, assessments, safety and health strategies, and quality assurance.
