As an employee of an agency that provides waiver services, you are required to meet certain training requirements. Select from the options provided to access some of the required training. To receive credit, you MUST show proof of training with a certificate, questions/answers, etc. You must provide this proof to your employer.

Some training is required BEFORE you start work, some is required within a CERTAIN TIME-FRAME during your probation period (usually 30-90 days) or IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR CERTIFICATE, and some is required ANNUALLY.

If you are hired, you may use some of the training again for your ANNUAL requirement. You may NOT complete any of the traininig topics twice in one year.
TRAINING
RESOURCES Training Sources
Provides a suggested list of sources for training. This includes Classroom, Web-based, Self-paced [articles, presentations, conferences, etc]. You can use some of these topics or find your own.

MasterTraining Chart
Provides a master list of all training requirements.

Training Forms
Lists training forms including Master Training Chart, Hire Training Chart, Annual Training Chart, Certificate, etc.

Hire Training Chart
Provides a chart for keeping track of your hire training requirements. This should be completed one time when you are hired.

Annual Training Chart
Provides a chart for keeping track of annual training requirements. Annual Training should include topics related to your specific job in supported living, including such topics as Disability, Health, Safety, Employment, Volunteering, Community Resources, Housing, Person-Centered Planning, Money Management, Benefits, Foodstamps, Legal Services, etc. Disabilities Training includes information regarding a specific disability, such as Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Prader Willi Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Autism, Mental Retardation, etc. There is a variety of information on the internet about disabilities.You can use the topics on the TRAINING SOURCES page or find your own.

TRAINING LINKS APD Website
Link to the APD Website, find Area Training Information and click on APD Provider Training to get information on APD training requirements.

APD Provider Training
The link provides information on classes provided by APD (such as AIDS/HIV, Core Competency, etc). Read the information provided. Get general information for each section (basic, service-specific, and in-service) and also a calendar of classes to take. On the calendar, open the class you want (click on the + sign and click on "Register. Fill out the form and press "Send". You must bring your confirmation email and you may need to bring training materials with you to class. Follow the instructions for accessing and printing out the training materlals, as required.

APD at Tallahassee Community College (TCC)
Web-based Training is a cooperative effort with Tallahassee Community College (TCC). Select Tallahassee Community College from the APD Provider Training page and read the information provided, then follow the link to the APD Training at APD's Training Site at TCC to access this training. Follow the instructions on the APD-TCC website carefully to register for training and obtain your unofficial transcripts. You must register at least one day prior to beginning the training.
       Currently, there are 3 courses offered through TCC for APD: The Core Competency Courses (Introduction to Developmental Disabilities and Health & Safety) and Zero Tolerance.

Delmarva
Select Delmarva from the APD Provider Training page Follow the link to the Delmarva FSQAP Training Center. Select "Training Center" from the menu on the left, then select "Online Training Information", then "Main" and follow the instructions to register to take classes.

Department of Children & Families (DCF)
Currently HIPAA Training only.

University of Florida from the APD Provider Training Page

PROOF OF TRAINING
CERTIFICATE
You MUST get a certificate if you take training as proof of your training. For any APD training (APD Approved or Certified Training, you will receive a certifcate from the trainer. Make sure your name is spelled correctly and the date is on the certificate.

For other training, you MUST print a certificate OR if the training has questions and answers, then submit the completed question page as proof of training.

Print and complete 1 certificate for each course completed (not provided by APD Approved or Certified Training source) that does NOt have questions/answers associated with it.
ANNUAL TRAINING To provide medicaid waiver services you must meet certain training requirements. You are responsible for obtaining and maintaining your training. Use the Annual Training form to help you keep track of your annual training. You MUST submit proof (usually a certificate) to the office to receive credit. Use the TRAINING SOURCES for ideas or find your own. There are millions of articles, presentations, fact sheets, etc. that you can locate by doing a browser search. Do not use any one topic more than one time. Print a Certificate and your Annual Training Chart before you begin so that you can enter the information required.

Supported Living Coach - 8 hours
Personal Supports - 4 hours
Life Skills Development 1 - 4 hours

Your Annual Training should include topics related to your specific job in supported living, including Disability, Health, Safety, Employment, Volunteering, Community Resources, Housing, Person-Centered Planning, Money Management, Benefits, Foodstamps, Legal Services, etc

REQUIRED TRAINING GENERAL INFORMATION Zero Tolerance (and every 3 years)
You can learn about Zero Tolerance at the APD Zero Tolerance Initiative.
Currently, there are 2 ways to get Zero Tolerance training:

Follow the link for APD's Training Site at TCC.  Follow the instructions on the TCC website carefully to register for training and obtain your unofficial transcripts. You must register at least one day prior to beginning the training.

Follow the link for APD Provider Training, select Required Training Calendar, find Zero Tolerance and select the +. Follow the instructions.

Medication Administration Course
   Staff MUST have this training PRIOR to working with a client who needs medication administratin assistance. This course MUST be re-taken IF you allow your Validation to expire.
Medication Administration Validation
   Staff MUST be validated PRIOR to working with a client who needs medication administration assistance.  Staff MUST be VALIDATED ANNUALLY (BEFORE your certificate expires).

CPR (update per your certificate)
  You will need to register for a Adult CPR course with your local fire department or Red Cross. Other qualified trainers may also be available, but you must be sure to get training that will certify you in Adult CPR. Submit your card or a copy for credit.  ou must also renew your CPR certification based on the certificate expiration date.

AIDS/HIV/Infection Control (update per your certificate)
   You can take HIV/AIDS through the APD Provider Training Service-Specific Training or through another valid approved trainer such as the Department of Health. You only need to take this one time IF your current certificate does NOT have an expiration date. Otherwise, you must re-certify in accordance with the expiration date on your certificate.

SLC Pre-Service (18 hours total)
    
For new staff only. Follow the link for the SLC Pre-Service Training Calendar to register for this class. It covers the history of supported living, eligibility, supporting choice, implementation plans, task analysis, assessments, safety and health strategies, and quality assurance. You must bring a copy of the Supported Living Guide (2005) to class and you MUST have a copy of your Provider Certification which you can request from your employer or download for your employer to complete.

Reactive Strategies
    This course is offered through an APD class. Supported living staff are NOT ALLOWED to use reactive strategies unless a strategy is identified in the client's Behavior Plan. You may not use any reactive strategy unless you have successfully completed the course and the validation. You MUST have this course and the validation that goes with it in order to use any kind of reactive strategy if it is identified in the client's Behavior Plan. See your employer regarding registering for this class.

First Aid (update per your certificate)
      You will need to register for a First Aid course with your local fire department or Red Cross. Other qualified trainers may also be available. Submit your card or a copy for credit.

Emergency Preparedness
Emergency Preparedness training is located on the TRAINING SOURCES along with many other links to important disaster information.

HIPAA
Currently, there are 2 ways to get HIPAA training:

DCF HIPAA Training - Follow the link. Select "About Us" at the top of the page and then "DCF Training" and find the HIPAA training.

University of Florida - Select University of Florida from the APD Provider Training page and this will take you directly to the HIPAA training.
IMPORTANT!!!! READ THESE DIRECTIONS TO ACCESS AND COMPLETE THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA HIPAA TRAINING
You must complete the training and print your certicate at one sitting.

5-When you complete the training you MUST REGISTER or you will have to start all over again. DO NOT USE a / or ' when you enter information in the registration page (For example when you type in the company name type it WITHOUT an ' -- Lifes New Beginnings. If you use a / or ' you will have to start all over again. Use 1234-0000 for your ID number. Sign in as a Visitor.
