Training Sources
Provides a suggested list of sources for Annual training. This includes Classroom, Web-based, Self-paced [presentations, conferences, etc]. You can use some of these topics or find your own. Whatever you use it MUST be considered training (not just reading an article) where you learn about something or learn to do something. You must also have a certificate and syllabus as proof of training (see Proof of Training Certificate).

APD Provider Training
The link provides information on classes provided by APD (such as AIDS/HIV, Social Security Work Incentives, Core Competency, etc). Read the information provided. Get general information for each section (basic, service-specific, and in-service) and also a calendar of classes to take. On the calendar, open the class you want (click on the + sign and click on "Register. Fill out the form and press "Send". You must bring your confirmation email and you may need to bring training materials with you to class. Follow the instructions for accessing and printing out the training materlals, as required.

PROOF OF TRAINING
CERTIFICATE |
For Required training, you MUST get a certificate as proof of your training. For any Required training (APD Approved or Certified Training), you will receive a certifcate from the trainer. Make sure your name is spelled correctly and the date is on the certificate.
APD Approved - Zero Tolerance, HIPAA, Direct Care Core Competency, etc
Certified Training - CPR, First Aid, etc. from a source other than APD (such as TRAIN Florida)
For Annual, you MUST get a certificate that has all of the information shown on the LNB Certificate. You must also provide a syllabus of the training or other information provided from the source for your training. If necessary you can have the trainer fill in the required information on the LNB Certificate if there is no official certificate provided. Use the syllabus/agenda if no official syllabus/agenda is provided for the class.

General Hire Training is training provided by the Program Administrator (or representative) covering reporting measures, choice, rights & responsibilities, health & safety, documentation, scope of services.

Client Specific Training is training provided by the Program Administrator (or representative) covering individual client specific information. |
ANNUAL/CERTIFIED
TRAINING |
To provide medicaid waiver services you must meet certain training requirements. You are responsible for obtaining and maintaining your training. You may also sign any updates on company policies, contracts, and employment information, and complete a Self-Assessment annually.
Annual Training includes service-specific training and is required annually. Certified Training is taken in accordance with the IBudget Handbook, APD, and as stated on your certificate (CPR, first aid, HIV/AIDS, HIPAA, Zero Tolerance, etc). Print the Annual/Certified Training Chart and a Certificate before you begin so that you can enter the information required to keep track of your training. You may also need the Syllabus/Agenda if one is not provided by the training organization. You MUST submit proof to the office to receive credit.
You may use the TRAINING SOURCES for ideas or find your own. Do not use any one topic more than one time. Make sure your training is NOT just reading an article, but learning about something or learning to do something.
Your Annual Training MUST include topics related to at least one client with whom you currently work in supported living. See your Annual/Certified Training Chart for details.
SLC -- 8 hours related to supported living
Topic examples: affordable housing, asset development, money management, specific health needs, accessing government benefits (such as food stamps or legal services), legal services, employment-related topics, person-centered planning, community resources, choice, safety issues, community inclusion, volunteering, specific disability (such Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Prader Willi Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Autism, Mental Retardation, etc.), etc
PS Day/Qtr -- 4 hours related to at least one client with whom you are currently working
Topic examples: health needs, community resources, person-centered planning, etc.
LSD1 (Companion) -- 4 hours related to at least one client with whom you are currently working

| PREHIRE SLC TRAINING |
SLC Pre-Service (18 hours total - hours now determined by APD as of 08-2015)
For new staff only. Follow the link for the SLC Pre-Service Training Calendar to register for this class. It covers the history of supported living, eligibility, supporting choice, implementation plans, task analysis, assessments, safety and health strategies, and quality assurance. You will need to bring a copy of the Supported Living Guide (2005) to class and you will need to have a copy of your Pre Service Certification which you can request from your employer or download for your employer to complete. Check on the APD website for current information.
SLC Introduction to Social Security Work Incentives
Information
about social security, medicare, medicaid. This is a Supported Employment Coaching course also required by the SLC. Follow the link for the SLC Pre-Service Training Calendar to register for this class. Check to ensure you have copies of required documentation (such as BPQY Handbook, the current Red Book, etc). Behavioral Emergency Procedures (Reactive Strategies)
This course is offered through an APD class. Supported living staff are NOT ALLOWED to use reactive strategies unless a strategy is identified in the client's Behavior Plan that you will need to use and you have successfully completed the Behavioral Emergency Procedures (Reactive Strategies) course. You MUST have this course in order to use any kind of reactive strategy if it is identified in the client's Behavior Plan. See your employer regarding registering for this class. TO REPEAT: You may NOT use any reactive strategy unless you have successfully completed the course AND a strategy has been identified in the client's Behavior Plan that you will need to use.

CPR, FIRST AID, HIV/AIDS/INFECTION CONTROL

CPR (update per your certificate)
You will need to register for a Adult CPR course with your local fire department or Red Cross. Other qualified trainers may also be available, but you must be sure to get training that will certify you in Adult CPR. Submit your card or a copy for credit. You must also renew your CPR certification based on the certificate expiration date.
First Aid (update per your certificate)
You will need to register for a First Aid course with your local fire department or Red Cross. Other qualified trainers may also be available. Submit your card or a copy for credit.
HIV/AIDS/Infection Control
(update per your certificate)
You can take HIV/AIDS through the APD Provider Training Service-Specific Training or through another valid approved trainer such as the Department of Health, the Red Cross, etc. Check in the current IBudget Handbook on page B-8 for current sources. You only need to take this one time IF your current certificate does NOT have an expiration date. Otherwise, you must re-certify in accordance with the expiration date on your certificate. |
